Before you know it the Super Bowl will be here.  I'm not so much a football fan as a fan of observing people at the top of their game. It's thrilling! 

For me that includes the commercials. One of our favorites, from a few years ago, was the Intuit ad that highlighted Death Wish Coffee. Death Wish Coffee was the winner of an Intuit contest that gave them a Super Bowl ad worth approximately $5 million.

Last Thursday I had an unexpected change in plans for the very next day. I was feeling worn down and antsy. At 4 pm I mentioned to a friend that I felt like I needed to get back out to events. She asked if I'd like to join her to hear Jack Canfield in Santa Barbara the next night. Something clicked inside me and without any hesitation, I said yes.

Now, I've heard Jack speak several times over the years at various conferences and events. Friday night was different. Two hours with a small audience. Story after story of how to set up extraordinary results.

(In case you don't know who Jack Canfield is, he's the co-author of "Chicken Soup For The Soul" books. Jack works with massive companies, international best-selling author, etc. )

If you've been in business for more than a year, it's pretty obvious that there are different stages you and your product go through.

 

First there's the time of deciding to really jump in and start it. Next, you're about making the product and getting those first few sales. It's such a milestone! You are officially what can be called "in revenue"! Yay! 

 

This stage is also what happens when your Kickstarter or other crowdfunding campaign works.

 

Next, you move past the first relatively few sales and get up around $100k in sales.  Life seems infinitely more fun. 

 

Then as you approach $500k (half a million dollars!) you're really hitting your stride. There are still problems, yes. But they are different problems.... Good problems.

 

That's right. There are "good problems".

 

I remember what this time was like. That gap between where you are going and where you are. It felt like the things to do outweighed the time and resources to get them done. 

 

It was in that gap years ago that I made a mistake that cost me an extra $10,000. Literally.  Ouch!
